Biden names nine ambassador nominees

Washington (US), June 16: U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced nine nominees for ambassadorships, including for Israel, Mexico, and NATO.
According to a White House statement, Thomas Nides, a banking executive and former deputy secretary of state, is nominated to serve as ambassador to Israel.
Biden picked his longtime foreign policy adviser Julianne Smith as envoy to NATO and former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar as ambassador to Mexico.
Biden also named Chesley Sullenberger, a retired pilot, to serve as U.S. representative on the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization. He is best known for successfully landing a passenger plane on the Hudson River in 2009 as both engines failed after takeoff.
The announcement also included ambassador nominees for Sri Lanka, Gambia, Guinea, Paraguay, and Costa Rica.
All these nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate.
